WordWise

You have arrived at “hidden” web pages relating to the company activities of the late Peter Dentener. Peter passed away on 24 September 2005 and Adecron Ltd no longer offers the services relating to his skills. Text has been maintained for the time being to reflect Peter’s input in the past and because links still exist from several of the websites he designed. Words that carry the message

"Words used wisely and in the right context will enhance communication.
Used poorly, they stand in the way of getting a message across".

Adecron WordWise's Peter Dentener started publishing in the early 1980s, including scientific literature as well as popular articles, reports, manuals, newsletters and web site material. In addition, Peter has a strong editing background in science, and in software reviews and web site copy.

 Background

Peter obtained his MSc from the Agricultural University, Wageningen (the Netherlands). After emigrating to New Zealand in 1981, he gained his PhD in Biological Sciences in 1985. Peter's area of expertise has seen him publish widely in insect-related international journals, and local grower magazines. In addition, Peter has produced more than 100 client reports and technical manuals.

Non-science related writing covers newsletters for his local yacht club, news items to local newspapers and newsletters, and articles and interviews on his [Mangere Bridge Community web site]. In his capacity as [web site designer], he (ghost-)writes copy for clients' web sites, and edits and re-writes client material when required.

Peter maintains an interest in science via his extensive network, and his [science consulting] work.

 Our approach

Whether we assist you with [writing] or [editing], our first priority is to sit down with you to understand your needs. What is the message you would like to convey, who is your target audience? Are your end-users technically/scientifically-minded, or do you need to get your message across at a layman's level? Once we understand your requirements, we will proceed to produce clear and concise material.

 Writing

Wanting to promote your company or organisation, or selling your services or products, how you express your thoughts in words can have a major impact on your business.

Adecron WordWise specialises in:

Effective writing is all about providing a clear and concise message.
And as one referee puts it¹:

"...(Peter) is meticulous, has an eye for removing the unnecessary and the obscure, and is devoted to good communication. His skills are also evident in his own writing, both at the very technical and the more popular levels".

 Editing

Words can confuse a message. Cluttered information, surplus words, and ambiguous statements all get in the way of effective communication. Let us help you provide a clear message to your end-users.

We offer three different levels of editing:
In addition to the above, we can help you with the following:

Peter's editing skills are best summarised by this reference¹:

"..in addition to his excellent science editing, (Peter) has shown particular skills in technical editing aimed at improving clarity, English, formatting and the general understanding of papers. He is meticulous, has an eye for removing the unnecessary and the obscure, and is devoted to good communication... I would have every confidence in Dr Dentener's professional efforts in any area of technical writing and editing. His long experience in this will be of great value in wider fields of communication".

 Published material
