Web Site Design

You have arrived at “hidden” web pages relating to the company activities of the late Peter Dentener. Peter passed away on 24 September 2005 and Adecron Ltd no longer offers the services relating to his skills. Text has been maintained for the time being to reflect Peter’s input in the past and because links still exist from several of the websites he designed. For more info on Adecron’s current activities check out www.adecron.co.nz

What is involved

Internet imageIt is important to establish from the beginning why you want a web site, what you would like to achieve with it. We can help you with this process.

 First step

When you contact us, we will arrange a meeting at our offices, or your business. Before the meeting, please collect as much material as you have i.e. written copy, images, digital files. Quite often pamphlets, brochures, letterheads and business cards are a good start since they give us an indication about your company, and preferred style.

We will sit down with you and listen to your preferences and ideas, and discuss issues such as your own [domain name], and who may be [hosting] your web site. When you have told us your [reasons] for a web site and your ideas, we will draft an outline and once agreed, go ahead. At this meeting we will also decide whether the material you have is sufficient, or if we will assist you with images or graphics, and maybe help to write some copy for the site.

We have a simple contract to guarantee our Services and Standards, and to spell out the simple things that help us pay our mortgage, such as payment details. We will also agree on a timeline by which you should be able to see the first draft. While we always do our best to meet agreed deadlines, we do depend on our clients to provide us with the necessary information.

 Templates and draft web site

For maximum efficacy and ease of adjustment, we make use of several of our templates which we individualise for you, using industry-standard software for both web writing, image creation and digital manipulation. A template allows us to set up a framework for your site, and to insert text and images without having to repeat a lot of HTML code writing. It also makes it easier to apply specific style or lay-out changes to all your web pages in one go. Once a template for your web site has been designed, we will upload it to our site, for you to have a look at and comment on. We will do the same when we have completed the first draft. This allows you to see what your site may look like on the web, without it being available for others to see.

Does your site need an update?

First impressions count and in most cases only a small percentage of your visitors take some action when they first visit your site. So how do you get those repeat visits (which equals repeat Sales or Services)? Unless people visit your site to check out your background, CV or reputation, web sites need to be updated on a regular basis to offer something new to repeat visitors. This may be free advice, news items, or downloads.

The golden rule of web site maintenance is therefore to never let a web site go out of date, be it in information, style or looks. We can offer you advise on your web site content including grammar and spelling (see our [Writing and Editing] background), optimisation for search engines, ease of navigation, download speed, and a range of other aspects. And we can update or completely overhaul your site, based on discussions with you about our findings.

A note of advice: keep your site up to date to avoid breaching the Fair Trading Act. An Auckland restaurant was fined "for misleading and out of date web site representations" in relation to their web site promotion of its menu and prices (Commerce Commission Media Release [No. 100 Issued 24 February 2005].

If you would just like to add small items to your site on a regular basis, or make minor changes, you will find out services very competitive.

 Why a web site?

Before you commit yourself, be clear about your reasons for a web site. If it is a business one, the following may be important to you (once you have established who your customers are):
• Marketing
• Portraying a professional image
• Telling potential customers about your Services
• Selling products
• Offering e-Commerce (e.g. a shopping site)
• Providing existing Customers with Information Services (generally accessible, or password-protected), and so on.

Clubs and Organisations may like to use their site to:
• Keep their members informed about activities
• Provide downloadable newsletters or enrolment forms
• Sharing information and photos; and so on.

And of course their is nothing stopping you from having a Personal Web Presence:
• Stay in touch with friends and family
• Share photos and stories with overseas contacts
• Set up your family's genealogy site
• Share information about your hobby
• And numerous other reasons.
